Abstract
Acid beverages produced in Jordan and tooth erosion

In this investigation the pH of beverage produced in Jordan was measured at both room temperature and at 4°C. An in vitro study was also carried out into the effect of these beverages upon the dental hard tissue using the SEM.
The results indicated that all the beverages used in the study were acidic. Cooling the beverages decreased their pH values. The erosive effect of these acid beverages was clearly demonstrated by the SEM observations which showed that a layer of surface enamel was completely lost as a result of incubation of extracted human teeth in acid beverage for a short period of time. A clinical case is reported showing an unusual pattern of tooth erosion due to an unusual habit of drinking the beverage.
