Abstract
Bucco-dental aesthetic in a traditional environment in Senegal

The strong psycho-social component of aestetic, generally speaking, encouraged us to look for the aestetic motivation of our patients in cosmetic dentistry from the socio-cultural habits of our region.
Bucco-dental aestetic in a traditional environment in Senegal expresses itself through cultural habits and craft devices. Often profane, it is motivated by the need for beauty and-or magico-religious process. 70 % to 80 % of the population comes from the country and remains faithful to its traditions, its customs and beliefs (aestetic valves, initiatory practices, craft devices).
Initiation is a group requirement, and ethnic or a socially hierarchic identification from which individuals can't free themselves. More and more, the urban way of life eliminates the "folklore" process of these cultural practices in order to favour comfort and asepsis.
The odontologist uses cosmetic dentistry, with its Occidental aestetic rules to satisfy the aestetic needs of our environment. Thanks to information and awareness, we will contribute to reaching one of our essential goals of our profession : aestetic.
