Abstract
Bucco-dental prevention in Senegal

It is admitted that the prevention regarded as priority highly participates to the improving of dental health. Nevertheless its practice meets some difficulties. This work seeks to identify these difficulties and to solve them.
It consist in collecting informations relevant to a transversal complete inquiry among the dental health professionals in Senegal and polls data (empiric and uncertain) respectively with populations and dental health professionals.

- For the uncertain poll : the main difficulty rests on the lack of time, although the health education is generally recognized as not being a waste of time by the dental health professionals.
- For the empiric poll which is in concern with all the levels of the populations 65 percent of these populations say that they have not received any advice about consultation and some more than 1/3 assert that they brush their teeth for pleasure.
- The results of the complete inquiry also show the negligence of the professionals to take care of prevention.

These results let know that prevention is not yet priority for the professionals while the populations seem to be motivated even though most of them is illiterate (3/4 of the senegalese population is illiterate). It is high time the government settled a new prevention policy with the following orientations : increasing the number and the kinds of dental health professionals and the teaching and or the elimination of illiteracy among populations for a better knowledge of the dental health.
