Résumé

Une enquête a été menée pendant 6 mois auprès de 418 patients âgés de 15 à 60 ans et venus consulter dans 9 cabinets dentaires de la région d'Abidjan.
Cette étude révèle une automédication chez 37,32 % des patients. Les médicaments concernés sont par ordre décroissant de fréquence, les anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens, les antalgiques et les antibiotiques.
Les principales raisons qui mènent les patients à s'automédiquer sont l'intensité des douleurs (dans 32,05 % des cas), le manque de moyens financiers (dans 12,82 % des cas) et la phobie du chirurgien-Dentiste (dans 11,54 % des cas).
Si dans la plupart des cas (55,13 %) les médicaments sont acquis dans les officines de pharmacie, une partie non négligeable (14,10 %) est achetée au marché ou dans la rue.
Les résultats de cette enquête sont analysés et comparés à ceux d'autres réalisées dans d'autres spécialités.

Abstract
Self-medication during oral and dental diseases in Ivorian urban environment results of a survey in the Abidjan area

During six months, a study enclosing 418 patients from 15 to 60 years old, has been realised in nine dental offices of the Abidjan area.
Self-medication has been found among 37.32 per cent of the patients. The most concerned medicines are no steroid inflammatories, analgesics and antibiotics.
According to this study, the main reasons of the self-medication are the pain, the lack of money, the practice and the fear of the dental surgeon.
The medicines are obtained at the chemist’s or bought at the market or in the street.
The results of the study are compared to others did in different specialities.
