La consommation exagérée de sucre sous ses diverses formes associée à une insuffisance d'hygiène bucco-dentaire, peut entraîner des polycaries chez l'enfant. Ces polycaries, lorsqu'elles se manifestent, aboutissent à une destruction des dents temporaires, avec pour corollaires des problèmes esthétiques et fonctionnels. Les thérapeutiques ne sont pas toujours évidentes surtout lorsqu'il y a coexistence de destructions coronaires juxta-gingivales sans atteinte pulpaire avec des édentements précoces. Les auteurs, à travers des cas cliniques traités au sein du service d'Odonto-Stomatologie Pédiatrique montrent différents types de possibilités thérapeutiques en fonction des formes cliniques. Il s'agit de traitements conservateurs ou d'extraction, de restaurations prothétiques à l'aide de coiffes pédodontiques préformées, de prothèse infantile amovible et de prothèse composite.
