Résumé

Le choix de la dimension des dents artificielles constitue une étape essentielle dans le traitement des édentements par la prothèse adjointe. Toutefois, les normes ou proportions usuelles servant de guide ont été élaborées essentiellement sur des populations caucasiennes. Cette étude a été entreprise pour déterminer des proportions entre les dimensions des dents antéro-supérieures et certaines structures maxillo-faciales chez le sujet noir africain. Il en résulte que les proportions généralement utilisées pour le choix des dents antéro-supérieures artificielles chez le sujet caucasien ne peuvent pas s'appliquer chez le patient mélanoderme d'Afrique.

Abstract

The choice of the size of artificial teeth takes an important place in the treatment of edentulism with removable prosthesis. However, the standards or proportions commonly used as guide have been developed mainly on Caucasians populations. This study have been undertaken to determine some proportions between anterior upper teeth and some maxillo-facial structures in black African subjects. The results suggest that the proportions generally used to choice the anterior upper artificial teeth in Caucasians subjects can not been applied in melanoderme Africans patients.
