Résumé

De nombreuses études ont montré que le port de prothèses complètes altère la fonction masticatrice. Le but de ce travail était d’étudier l’influence du port de prothèses complètes et du vieillissement sur la performance masticatrice. Elle est évaluée par la méthode granulométrique sur une population de 110 sujets répartis en 3 groupes en fonction de l’état dentaire et de l’âge. Les résultats montrent que les sujets édentés porteurs de prothèses ont une performance masticatoire moins bonne que leurs congénères normodentés du même âge. En effet, la médiane de la distribution de la taille des particules est plus importante chez les porteurs de prothèses que chez les sujets âgés dentés (P < 0,0001). En revanche l’étendue de la distribution ne varie pas significativement entre ces 2 groupes de sujets.
Les paramètres de la performance masticatoire ne varient pas de manière statistiquement significative entre les sujets normodentés âgés et les sujets normodentés jeunes. Il n’y a donc pas d’effet significatif de l’âge sur les paramètres de la performance masticatoire.

Abstract
Study of the characteristics of the bolus at elderly subjects with complete denture

Many studies have shown that wearing of complete dentures impairs masticatory function. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of complete denture wearing and ageing on masticatory performance. Masticatory performance was assessed by a granulometric method on 110 subjects divided into 3 groups according to dental state and age. The results show edentulous subjects have a masticatory performance worse than their congeneric of the same age. Indeed, the median of the distribution of the size of the particles is more important at the carriers of prostheses than at the toothed old subjects (P < 0,0001). On the other hand the extent of the distribution does not vary significantly between these 2 groups of subjects.
The parameters of the masticatory performance do not vary in a statistically significant way between the old subjects and the young controls. There is thus no significant effect of the age on the parameters of the performance masticatory.
