Résumé

Objectif : Connaître l’état de santé bucco-dentaire d’une population de militaires.
Matériel et méthodes : L’enquête bâtie autour d’un examen clinique a porté sur 733 militaires de l’armée burkinabè, d’octobre à décembre 2015.
Résultats : Le taux de prévalence globale de la carie dentaire était de 21,0%, l’indice CAOD moyen était faible (1,51) ; 20,3% des individus présentaient un saignement gingival et le tartre était présent chez 13,4% des militaires. Les besoins en prothèses (25,5%) étaient très élevés.
L’indice thérapeutique particulièrement bas justifie la nécessité d’une visite au moins annuelle chez le chirurgien-dentiste.
Conclusion : Des mesures de prévention et d’hygiène bucco-dentaire sont également nécessaires afin de réduire le pourcentage de dents cariées et absentes. En définitive, les militaires burkinabè présentent un état de santé bucco-dentaire meilleur que celui de la population générale.

Abstract
Study of oral health status of a military population from Burkina Faso

p>Objective: To determine the oral health status of military population.
Material and methods: The investigation built around a clinical examination included 733 soldiers of Burkina Faso army from October to December 2015.
Results: The overall prevalence rate of dental caries was 21.0%, the average DMFT was low (1.51); 20.3% of individuals had gingival bleeding and calculus was present in 13.4% of the military. Prosthodontic needs (25.5%) were high.
The particularly low therapeutic index justifies the need for a visit at least annually at the dentist.
Conclusion: Prevention and oral hygiene measures are also needed to reduce the percentage of decayed and missing teeth. Ultimately, the oral health status of military population from Burkina Faso is better than that of general population.
