Abstract
Introduction: During orthodontic treatment, the practitioner is often required to perform dental extractions; this raises the question of their effects on intra-arch widths, profile, treatment duration, occlusal results, smile aesthetics and stability. The objective of this work is to compare the transverse dimensions of the maxillary and mandibular arches before and after treatment with or without dental extraction.
Material and methods: We analyzed the files of 60 patients, 30 cases treated with extraction of the 1st premolars and 30 cases treated without extraction. The selection of these cases met the following inclusion criteria: a complete set of permanent teeth before treatment; cases completed and degumming while meeting the therapeutic objectives.
